Renewal cadence: The RN license renewal period is May 1st through August 31st in odd-numbered years. The renewal application is available in the Nurse Portal starting May 1st. If your license has not been renewed by August 31, your license will lapse and you will be unable to work until your license has been reinstated.

Permanent License

Apply through the nurse portal on the BON website and pay the fee
Request verification of licensure via Nursys from a state where you hold an active license. You must list all states where you hold active or inactive licenses but only one verification is required. If these states do not participate in Nursys, you will need to contact that state’s BON and request verification be sent to the Idaho BON via this document.
Provide a satisfactory nursing reference on this form from the three-year period immediately preceding the application
Provide a declaration of your primary state of residence
Provide a background check with fingerprints

A temporary license may be issued to an applicant for licensure by endorsement on proof of current licensure in good standing in another jurisdiction or satisfactory evidence of employment within the three years immediately preceding application.
Temporary licenses are valid until the next renewal period
