Job Summary:
A Respiratory Therapist is responsible for assessing and treating patients with breathing disorders, providing oxygen therapy, managing ventilators, and administering respiratory medications. They work closely with physicians to develop and implement treatment plans for patients with respiratory illnesses.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conducting diagnostic tests to assess lung function and determine the severity of respiratory disorders
- Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans for patients
- Monitoring and adjusting ventilator settings for patients in critical care units
- Educating patients on proper breathing techniques and managing respiratory conditions
- Collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care
- Maintaining accurate patient records and documenting treatment progress
- Responding to emergency situations and providing life-saving respiratory support
Qualifications and Skills:
- Associate's degree in Respiratory Care or equivalent
- Certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- State licensure as a Respiratory Therapist
- Strong understanding of respiratory physiology and pharmacology
- Proficiency in operating respiratory equipment and devices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities
