Job Summary:
A Phlebotomist is responsible for drawing blood from patients for medical testing, transfusions, donations, or research. They also label and document samples accurately and ensure patient comfort and safety during the procedure.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Perform venipuncture and skin puncture to obtain blood specimens.
2. Label and document samples accurately and maintain proper records.
3. Follow strict protocols and procedures to ensure patient safety and prevent contamination.
4. Prepare samples for transport to laboratory facilities.
5. Educate patients on the blood drawing process and answer any questions or concerns.
6. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
7. Assist with other duties as needed, such as clerical tasks or inventory management.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
2. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
3. Current certification or licensure as a phlebotomist.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
8. Ability to handle potentially stressful situations with professionalism.
