Job Title: Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse (PACU)
Job Summary:
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse (PACU) is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia after surgical procedures. They monitor vital signs, assess patient conditions, and manage pain and other post-operative symptoms. The PACU Nurse plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and comfortable transition of patients from the operating room to the recovery room.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Monitor patients recovering from anesthesia, ensuring their safety and well-being.
2. Assess patient conditions and response to anesthesia, providing appropriate interventions as needed.
3. Manage post-operative symptoms such as pain, nausea, and respiratory issues.
4. Collaborate with healthcare team members to provide comprehensive post-operative care.
5. Educate patients and their families on post-operative care instructions and medications.
6. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
7. Adhere to hospital policies and procedures regarding patient care and safety.
8. Assist in the transfer of stable patients to hospital units or discharge to home.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Valid RN license in the state of practice.
2. BLS and ACLS certification.
3. Minimum of 2 years of experience in post-anesthesia care or critical care nursing.
4. Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.
5. Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Ability to prioritize and multitask effectively.
8. Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.
