Job Title: Phlebotomist Technician
Job Summary:
A Phlebotomist Technician is responsible for drawing blood from patients for various medical tests, transfusions, donations, or research purposes. They ensure the proper collection, labeling, and handling of blood samples to ensure accurate and reliable results.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Greet patients and explain the blood drawing process
2. Verify patient information and confirm the order of tests
3. Select the appropriate venipuncture site
4. Collect blood samples using proper techniques
5. Label samples accurately and record information
6. Transport samples to the laboratory for processing
7. Maintain a clean and organized work area
8. Dispose of used needles and other hazardous materials safely
9. Follow infection control and safety procedures
10. Provide excellent customer service and patient care
11. Assist in training new phlebotomists
Qualifications and Skills:
1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. Completion of a phlebotomy training program
3. Certification from a recognized organization (e.g., ASCP, NHA)
4. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
6. Ability to work effectively under pressure
7. Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
8. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations
9. Reliable transportation to travel to different locations
10. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
