Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery (RN L&D) is responsible for providing nursing care to women during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. They work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure the safety and well-being of mothers and their newborns. The RN L&D also provides education and support to expectant mothers and their families.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Monitor and assess the progress of labor and delivery
2. Administer medications and assist with pain management techniques
3. Assist with fetal monitoring and provide support during contractions
4. Perform emergency procedures as needed
5. Educate new mothers on breastfeeding and newborn care
6. Maintain accurate medical records and documentation
7. Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure quality patient care
8. Provide emotional support and encouragement to patients and their families
9. Participate in continuing education and professional development activities
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Valid RN license
2. Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) preferred
3. Certification in Inpatient Obstetrics (RNC-OB) preferred
4. Minimum of 2 years of experience in labor and delivery
5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
7. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
8. Knowledge of obstetrical and neonatal care practices
9. Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications
10. Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
