Job Summary:
A Speech Therapist, also known as a Speech Language Pathologist, is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating individuals with speech, language, and communication disorders. They work with patients of all ages to improve their ability to speak, understand, and be understood.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Perform evaluations to assess patients' speech and language abilities
- Develop individualized treatment plans to address patients' specific needs
- Provide therapy sessions to improve communication skills, including speech, language, and cognitive communication
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians and teachers, to address patients' overall needs
- Monitor patients' progress and adjust treatment plans as needed
- Educate patients and their families on techniques to enhance communication skills
- Keep detailed records of patient assessments, treatment plans, and progress
Qualifications and Skills:
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- ASHA certification (CCC-SLP) or eligibility to obtain certification
- State licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist
- Experience working with a diverse population of patients, including children and adults
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
