Job Summary:
The Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in the operating room by assisting surgeons, nurses, and other medical staff before, during, and after surgical procedures. Their main responsibilities include preparing the operating room, sterilizing equipment, and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment.
2. Anticipate the needs of surgeons during procedures and provide assistance accordingly.
3. Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments and equipment.
4. Assist in the positioning and prepping of patients for surgery.
5. Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
6. Handle and label specimens correctly.
7. Assist in the closing of incisions and transferring patients to recovery areas.
8. Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control measures.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Completion of an accredited surgical technology program.
3. Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is preferred.
4. Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
7. Knowledge of surgical procedures and medical terminology.
8. Physical stamina and dexterity to stand for long periods and lift heavy equipment.
